As some of you may know, I initially started this blog as a way to document my travels. However, I feel that I would be holding back on some pretty big moments going on in my life if I choose to only share travel-related content. I know that I’ve shared a couple lifestyle moments already in the past, but I tried to keep them short and sweet. But, I’d now like to share more lifestyle posts like this one going forward, while still posting about travel, too, of course!
It’s been a long time coming for this post, but I couldn’t be more happy to share some of the exciting new things that’ve been happening over the last few months. And I’ll preface this by saying, more has happened in these last few months than any other year, ever! Haha. Unfortunately, I don’t have any new destination posts to share yet, but keep reading and you’ll understand why! 😉
I’m officially a college grad
Since living in Miami the last four years, I’m happy to say I finally graduated with a B.A. in English with a specialization in Professional Writing. Yay! My last two semesters were definitely two of the busiest! As in, completely full schedules from beginning to end, which is why there was (sadly) just no time to plan for a trip before graduation. But, obviously, it was totally worth it in the end!
Graduation day was everything that I expected and more! It was filled with so many emotions (and pride, ha) and I had all of my closest family and friends in town to help me celebrate. We celebrated after graduation with a boozy brunch at one of my favorite spots in Brickell–American Social. Yum!
I said “yes” to forever with him!
After 4.5 amazing years together, Nate proposed to me at the Key Biscayne lighthouse the morning after graduation–and of course, I SAID YES! It was a total surprise for me, yet apparently everyone and their mother knew for a little while. I give Nate and my family total props for being so sneaky because I’m a detail person and can usually pick up on everything. So, they did good.
Since this happened in May, we’ve already received tons of sweet messages from everyone, and we’re feeling so grateful! We’re both surrounded by the most supportive family and friends that we couldn’t possibly imagine doing life without. And now we get to do it as one big fam 🙂 Seriously couldn’t be more excited to soon call this man my husband!
We moved to DALLAS!
SURPRISE! Hahah, we moved. And we couldn’t be happier right now. One of the main reasons I never really wanted to associate my blog only to Miami was because I honestly didn’t know where I was going to end up in the next couple of years.
Since I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, I always had this little urge inside me to jump out of my comfort zone and move out of state one day. Not that I don’t love my home state, because I do (!), but I also wanted a change in scenery. And what better time to do that than just after graduation, and before committing to a job?
We’ve had a few people ask why Texas? Well, for reasons I just mentioned above and because Nate and I were on the same page. He actually isn’t even from Florida, but moved to Miami for college back in 2013. He basically always knew that Florida just wasn’t “home” for him and that it would be temporary, even though he did enjoy the time he had there.
Plus, there just weren’t the right job opportunities that he wanted in Miami. So, it all just worked out that we both felt the same way.
When we first started talking about what our plans are for post-grad life and possibly moving out of state, we both made our list of states that we would move to. There were a couple that we had in common, but we always ended up going back to the idea of Texas. And then Dallas, specifically. So, long story short, here we are.
We made the move officially towards the end of May, and we’re loving getting to explore a new city. We both found jobs that we love, we found the cutest apartment, and now we’re just trying navigate life together as a newly engaged couple. There is even talks about possibly adopting a little fur baby! So, who knows what will happen next… For now, we’re just taking it a day at a time. Excited for what’s to come!
